A GUIDE FOR MEDICAL STUDENTS
FOUNDATION
Publications
Unlike students, Junior doctors have limited selection of prize-winning events. Junior doctors still win prizes, but in the form of research and presentations. Browse the following websites to find out more about publications.
Research
Try to get involved in a research project (part-time) and be realistic in your projects - do not try to take over-ambitious tasks! Ask around and speak to consultants who have research interests, they will be happy to involve an enthusiastic research partner! Start your first project as a database or literature-based projects that can be relatively easy to performe in your spare time. Cell or animal-based research projects requires laborious amount of time in the lab, while research with animal and human studies may require Home Office or ethical approval, which may prolong the entire project.
Get involved in the UK Clinical Research Network (CRN) - it is accessible to all clinicians and not just those in central teaching hospitals.
If you are doing Fellowships, MDs, or PhDs, make the most of your research and try to secure funding for any research. You may want to search in the internet for a research funding organisation, for example: Research Council UK.
